Planning a major update from SBS 7.5.2 to LMS 7.7 or later, for SB2's, w/ Yosemite

I have had a wonderfully reliable, smooth experience playing locally stored music on my three modded wired SB2's for the past four years running SBS 7.5.2 on a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8). Now, with Logitech having discontinued Squeezeboxen, I know a lot of SB owners are worried about continued LMS support. I am not about to abandon my SB2's, but I think it would be prudent to at least get more current with the latest Mac OS Yosemite (which I've been reluctantly planning to do for better security and at least for latest Safari), and update to the latest LMS and the required latest firmware for my SB2's. So here is my plan, and some questions-- I'd appreciate any comments and advice on how sensible this sounds.

1. I am hoping to hold off until March of 2015 for the LMS update to wait for the major bugs to be worked out of Yosemite to update my Mac OS, along with a RAM increase to 8 GB. This hopefully would also give ample time for LMS to be tweaked to run smoothly on Yosemite, and SB firmwares to be updated as required. I would ideally like to have at least LMS 7.7.4 be available as an official download from Logitech (not just in beta), so my firmware update will be in sync for an easy transition.

2. Should I be worried that the new firmware needed to run with LMS 7.7.4 or later would NOT run smoothly on my old SB2's? And is there any reason to suspect that the normal firmware update process (holding the brightness button on SB remote) will be unsupported or disrupted now that Logitech is moving away from Squeezebox? I wonder if indie developers will be able to be able to update SB firmwares in addition to LMS to stay compatible with new Mac OS updates into the future.

3. Would it make sense to wait until LMS 7.8.1 or later, is officially released, not just in beta, to get the newer LMS architecture, while I'm undertaking such a major upgrade? Would this likely be ready by March of 2015? Any firmware issues for my old SB2's? Reliability and future-proofing, and not new features, are my primary wishes.

4. Is it advisable to do a complete clean download of the recently released LMS (7.7.4 or later) or could I do a simple "update" on top of my current SBS 7.5.2 to keep all my settings, etc. If a clean LMS download is advised, could you point me to a link describing the steps for saving and reinstalling my old settings for the new LMS (if they are even compatible)?

I'd love to stay put with my very current dependable old set-up, but I sense that I'd better move to the latest LMS, and Yosemite, soon while Logitech is still (barely) supporting my SB2 firmwares, and LMS updates. I am very grateful that Michael is helping us SB users with these updates and issues. Thanks for any help in advance.

Robert
