LMS Priority etc

Many moons ago I set the LMS priority on ubuntu (now version 14.04) to be around -8 in the performance settings (I assume this is intended to be a 'nice' value). I don't suppose I ever bothered to check if anything changed.

Looking today I notice that squeezeboxserver is still running at priority 20 (nice 0). I tried setting --priority -8 in /etc/defaults/logitechmediaserver, and rebooted. The priority parameter is now included in the startup command line (I checked) but still no change to the running priority. I added groups sudo and adm to user 'squeezeboxserver' and tried again. Still nothing.

Now I don't suppose this matter much, particularly on a dedicated music server, but it is a little odd. Any ideas anyone?

I also begin to wonder if the memory settings on the performance page are having any effect - how would I tell?
