Can playlists have their own artwork?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. Not _this_ particular can of worms. Just in
general: add a feature which people will expect ten times the settings
for. Look at problems we have with album art. And there's at least a
somewhat standard way to define artwork (stored in the tracks, or in the
album's folder). But with playlists? The folder idea wouldn't work, as
we expect them all in the same folder. And playlist formats afaik don't
provide a well defined way to define artwork (only checked m3u and pls).

But the Now Playing artwork is what the OP was asking for: always show
the same artwork, no matter what track is playing. That's not going to
happen. (I considered doing the album art collage in the MAI plugin...)
