MP3 radio streams not playing with custom-config.conf

I implemented a MP3>PCM custom-config.conf file piping "[lame] --decode" into "[sox] equalizer" and MP3 files play fine but MP3 radio streams are broken.

Is there a command line switch that will let LAME decode radio streams to WAV?
