Scanner freezing

I notice that occasionally the scanner will freeze. For me it always seems to be during pre-caching artwork. When this happens it is impossible to stop the scanner process using kill process in htop and the only way out is to reboot the server which is a pain because I need to set up ngrok every time the server is restarted.
