Replay Gain Preamp and Clipping prevention

Hi everybody,

I looked for "simple" options in LMS but I found not much about them in LMS parameters or in this forum, except perhaps this threads :
https://forums.slimdevices.com/archi...p/t-30316.html
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...Default-Volume
Both of them old and without conclusion. So I try a new thread, all apologies if I missed something.

Here is my problem : It seems to me (and it seems apparently to lot of people) than using "digital" volume attenuation on a source before a DAC makes losing dynamic, more than using volume attenuation of a preamp. At least it is what I believe I ear. That said, I love using my Squeezbox Touch volume control to pilote it remotely with my smartphone and I love Replay Gain that let me change from a tune to another without blasting my speakers, and my ears. So a good compromise is to use it a little, keeping close of 100% as close as possible and balance it with a preamp "constant" volume attenuation. The problem is that I have an attenuation of 8 to 10 dB because "standard" -18LUFS ReplayGain on lot of "modern" music, so even at 100% I'm far from 100%.

A first solution would be to change ALL of my (lot of) files to -16LUFS or -14LUFS, but I don't like that because it's a mess to do it again, because -18LUFS is now like a standard for ReplayGain and because it's much better to change it depending of your need on each player.

A second solution, that seems much better is the solution on foobar2000. Foobar2000 ReplayGain scanner is stick to -18LUFS but foobar2000 replaygain player let user add a preamp value for files with RG info and for files without RG info. That's exactly what I think is missing on LMS. Moreover, I don't know how clipping prevention work on LMS for files whose "Gain" and "Peak" values are high. Foobar 2000 let activate or not this option.
