Not wishing to re-ignite a which is better discussion but simply to advise of an anomaly I discovered in case this helps others.
Local LMS server - piCorePlayer - NFS mount to QNAP1
Remote LMS server - piCorePlayer - CIFS mount to QNAP2
The 2 x piCorePlayers are identical in LMS version, Perl, Audio::Scan etc
The 2 QNAPs synchronise with each other on an overnight basis - they contain exactly the same number of files
Local LMS - library of 4165 albums 52240 tracks
Remote LMS - library 4164 albums 52233 tracks
Why the difference?
After exporting the album tables from both db's and manipulating them in Excel I can tell you that the scan over the CIFS mount doesn't like a certain character in a folder name - the dot at the end of Public Image Ltd in the picture below - the scanner can however read it OK over the NFS mount.
