I had a Sonos until I discovered it has an internal limit on how many songs it can catalog - In my case, it couldn't handle my 51,000 track collection. So I bought a used Duet to try to get around this issue.
The Duet is firmware 77 and is connected both wireless and CAT5.
My music files are stored on a Synology Diskstation DS413j DSM 4.2
I also have a PC always on that is 32-bit Win7, Dual-Core E5200 2.5Ghz 4Gb RAM
My collection is in the format \\diskstation\music\artist1, \\diskstation\music\artist2, etc
I tried installing the LMS package ( 7.7.2-007 ) on the NAS device first. The scans were fast. Too fast. It showed all the folders as 'empty' and only indexed a couple hundred songs. I fiddled with some settings ( Turned off all plug-ins, set new music scan to 100,000... ), still nothing.
In frustration, I installed the latest 7.7 LMS on the PC. The scan takes forever! In fact, it was relatively fast up to around track 25,000 and then it would take an hour to scan another 50. I moved all the subfolders and ran a complete new scan on the empty library location ( I have tried both a mapped drive x:\music and the UNC \\diskstation\music... ) , then I moved a few folders back. The first time with the letter A, I selected 'Clear Library' scan. That worked for the A artists. I added the B folders and so on, rescanning each time for just 'new and changed'.
This is still taking forever. I assume it will run through each song and check if it has changed and that time is adding up every new scan. Still, I'm afraid to dump all the folders back in the music share and scan because I can't wait for days to scan this collection.
Any advice greatly appreciated - I would love the NAS to do the work, but have yet to find a solution to that. My next stap will be to uninstall / reinstall on the PC...
