Hi all,
I've seen quite a few threads (and tickets in the bug tracker)
regarding Perl incompatibilities of LMS with later versions of Perl
than 5.14 (which it apparently supports). But I'm not understanding all
implications of that matter.
I'm running my LMS 7.8.0 nightlies on a Debian GNU/Linux unstable box
for years now without major problems (the usual now-and-then issues
with running nightlies, but nothing major).
But now Debian is moving from Perl 5.14 to 5.18 in unstable. The LMS
7.8.0 nightly Debian package lists a dependency to Perl >= 5.8.8. But
remembering the threads I saw here, I have a feeling that just
upgrading my Debian box to Perl 5.18 might not be the best thing to do.
Could some kind soul please elaborate on the state of LMS with Perl
5.18? What issues are known to be present, what problems may occur when
upgrading?
At present I'm holding back all Perl-related packages from upgrading,
so they stay at Perl 5.14, however maintaining Debian unstable this way
gets more and more complicated.
Thanks for all your information regarding this issue.
Greetings,
Stefan
