Automatic Update nag messages

I know this has been covered before (probably many times) but I can't find the relevant threads/posts.

Once a new update has been automatically downloaded, if you don't want to update can you delete the downloaded file to stop the nag messages?

If so, what is the name of the downloaded update file and where is it located?
