Hello,
Is anyone else using this configuration?
My guess is that the problem is perl accessing many little files.
Tried Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Doing a scan from a mac over WIRELESS using the synology as the file server is much faster than the Windows PC accessing the synology box wired/gigabit ethernet.
What was also weird is that the speed/timing of LMS scan from windows seemed to not change much regardless of access method, for example if the PC was wireless/wired whatever always the same speed.
If I tried LMS on a fast mac, or a slow mac, wired connection to file server, wireless connection to file server I would get different expected results.
Tried the various versions of LMS including 7.8
Testing/timing file access speeds from windows accessing Synology showed everything fine and speedy.
I may or may not have tried NFS, initially had trouble getting NFS working between the Synology box and Windows, but since file access is speedy from MAC/Synology (AFP) and in general files access from Windows to Synology is very fast; do not think SMB is the issue.
Running LMS on the windows and placing the files either on an external USB drive or internal SSD makes LMS scan speedy again, but the synology box is supposed to be the file server.
I can use the SSD or external drive and have an automated file copy or something.
When I started to go SSD or external harddrive approach I noticed that certain file names/characters/file path lengths caused windows problems, and at that time I gave up adding new music to my system.
At the time I reported one bug with LMS; something like a certain file name/path would work during a file scan, but would crash LMS if I did a browse by folder.
Also at that time I gave up on a final soluition.
Any thoughts?
I originally bought the small windows box so I would not have to buy a small mac mini. I built the windows; even picked out the parts, a motherboard, SSD etc.
