Need Help. LMS starts then stops

I am trying to install LMS on a machine with a clean XP installation. LMS installs then opens the control panel. I click on start LMS but seconds later it stops. I am installing LMS 7.8 but have had this problem with 7.7.3 as well. How do I trouble shoot this?
