Pardon my immense ignorance but I am wondering about something that I hope someone can help me with.
As background. I was gifted with an IBM thinkpad and a Logitech Touch some time ago which has performed rock solid and which I quite enjoy. In fact, I was considering bringing the setup downstairs into my main listening room but the missus won't have any of that.
Given that I am unable to find another Touch I am wondering if I could, instead, install Logitech Media Server (which I am somewhat comfortable with) onto an Asus netbook computer (Windows 7) and remote control it all with my Blackberry Playbook tablet (and suitable control application)?
I just bought a USB DAC and would like to connect my Asus netbook to it and then into my hifi setup. I would have no squeezebox device in this case.
I am only interested in playing back the music files that will be housed on the netbook/external hard drive and don't require internet access .... which I don't have anyhow in my main listening room. But would I still need to install a router in order for my playbook tablet to work?
Is this doable or am I completely out of "touch" with how this all works?
