I have a weird problem. I'll try to explain it as briefly as I can.
I set up Squeezebox server on an old netbook running Windows 7 Starter and it works great. Been using it for a while. Mostly using FLAC files that I store on a USB drive. I have a Squeezebox Touch on my main system. I use my phone, an iPad, and a Kindle Fire as additional players and remotes.
I got a new laptop a few weeks ago and thought I'd use my old one in to replace the netbook. The laptop is running Vista. I loaded everything and it works great with my Touch, but none of the other devices work. They can't find the server. Switched back to the netbook and everything is fine again. I've been back and forth several times trying to figure it out and it always works fine with the netbook, but not with the laptop. So it has to be some setting on the laptop. I went through every setting I could find that looked like it might help to no avail. The Touch always works. The problem is only with devices running Squeezebox Remote or Squeezeplayer.
I'm not much of a computer whiz. This may be beyond me. But hoping maybe this is something someone has run into before and there's a simple solution. The netbook works, but it's painfully slow. Not a problem most of the time, but if I have to do anything with it, even ripping a new CD, it's a little frustrating. I put Ubuntu on it at one point hoping it would work better. It did, actually, but I wasn't able to figure out how to install Squeezebox server on it. My skill level seems to stop somewhere short of that. Then, somehow, I angered GRUB and... well I'm lucky I was able to get Windows 7 Starter working again. A little insight into my ability with computers there. lol Not a super user.
Thanks,
Ed
