LMS 7.8.0 installation on Debian/ARM: Prerequesites? Tweaks?

Hi,

I have a Pogoplug v3 device running Debian Squeeze. Yesterday I installed Logitech Media Server 7.8.0 with the debian installer package from the Slimdevices download archive. There are a lot of guides on how to set up LMS on ARM based devices and I took inspiration from a guide that aims towars RasperryPi boards: http://allthingspi.webspace.virginmedia.com/lms.php

So, before installing the LMS package, I installed a few libraries as suggested in that guide:
Code:

sudo apt-get install libjpeg8 libpng12-0 libgif4 libexif12 libswscale2 libavcodec53
Then I installed the .deb-package for LMS, opened the neccessary ports in my firewall and set up LMS. Everything seems to be working. I can stream music to my SB Touch.

What I don't understand, though, is why that guide suggests to apply patches, move some files, etc. Just to be claer, I did not apply any of these changes when I installed LMS. But is Raspian so different from Debian that the normal .deb-package doesn't work properly on these setups? Or am I missing something and LMS just seems to be running fine while it'd be really better to do those changes as well?

Is there an "official" guide on how to install LMS on Debian/ARM based devices?

Cheers,

Timo
