Still using Win XP?

If you're still using a WinXP box, you're most probably aware that MS has discontinued support.
However, there are a lot of point-of-sale machines in the world running XP. They have not lost support.
So... you can make your XP box appear to be a POS by adding an entry in the registry.
Easiest way is to copy the following lines into a text editor. Save as SetPOSReady.reg (or whatever name floats your boat).
Then just run it. You'll need to be in the Administrators group (or use runas).
MS does not support this. I've done it on an old laptop, and the "this operating system is obsolete" warnings disappear, updates start happening, and Security Essentials goes back to working. I've read that this will extend support to 2019.

Performance-wise, if you're running a Squeeze server on XP, you'd be better off switching to Linux, but, hey, this is a five minute fix. Procrastinators of the world, unite!
