BBC Radio abroad

Firstly appologies for startign a new thread on this topic but i have reviewed a lot of threads and nobody seems to be giving answers for non UK residents. My situations is

Located outside of the UK (germany)
LMS on Synology
Squezebox classic 2
Squeezebox boom
Squeezebox radio
Squeezebox Duet

Previous to the Audio Factory switch i was accessing Radio 4 & 6 through BBC iplayer app. in Feb listen live stopped working but the listen again continued ok

i switched to listening to the live feed through the AAC feed (opml radiotime com Tune ashx id=s25419 formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wma)
however continued buffering makes it unusable most of the time.
This seems to be more of a problem on the older units such as the boom but also affects the modern Duet and Radio..

my understanding is the older units need the feed converted from AAC to WMA or MP3 (not sure which) so i get why this might not work but the newer units???

My questions is what do i need to do to get this to work again?
1) config / setup?
2) ditch the old units and buy newer hardware?
3) ditch squeezebox altogether? - but is this problem better on other platforms? SONOS?
4)....?

Please help, i'm going crazy without Radio 4 in the mornings
