Newbie needs help: can I setup a LMS on a netgear R7000 router?

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a new transporter and I realized it relies on a server exclusively to play local media. I don't have a dedicated NAS. I currently use an USB drive connected to the Netgear R7000 router to serve my media to my devices right now. The Samba and DLNA service has been working well for me. I do not plan to purchase a new NAS unless I have to. Short of that, what are the options:

1. does the Transporter take DLNA feed?
2. Can I install a version of the server onto the router-attached USB drive?

The router is based on a Broardcom ARM dual core CPU at 1GHz. It can run on wide range of third-party firmwares: DD-WRT, TomatoUSB and, amazingly, a modded version of Asuswrt-merlin. I am currently with the Asuswrt-merlin. It has optware installed as part of the asus downloadmaster installation. It can also run entware as well. there is also a way to install a debian chroot environment within optware or entware.

I was able to follow this instruction half way to install the LMS in chroot environment until the "change the UID and GID" part. the server can be started with no error message, but it is not accessible with a browser. Of course all the UID and GID were not even set up.

I am not a computer person at all. any pointers as where I should be going?

Thanks to all in advance!
