how to install lms on unbuntu 13.04?

i've tried the ubuntu (deb) package for 7.7 and 7.8 with no luck. i figured i go back to the 'install from source' method but i cannot find a relatively recent description of the steps for linux.

has anyone gotten an ubuntu package to install on 13.04?

is there an up to date (7.7) guide to installing from source?
