MySQL vs sqlite

I've attempted to search the forum to get some insight, but to no avail. I'm building a NAS/home server (planning to use Ubuntu server). I'm pretty sure I'm going to need an instance of MySQL on the box for something else, so rather than use the built-in sqlite database I was thinking of pointing the server at MySQL.

I'm running a recent 7.8 nightly build on an underpowered consumer NAS at the moment with no modification apart from a couple of transcoding tweaks. It seems to work OK as it is so was wondering if there would be any benefit to using a "proper" database other than using it as a learning exercise. On the other hand it also worked OK with MySQL in one of the earlier versions. My library is currently about 8000 songs of assorted formats, but I expect that to increase by 100% over the life of the NAS

Just looking for some insight from folks who have tried both.
